The site for this home is a steep slope corner lot in a prestigious neighborhood. Existing site conditions include neighbors to the west and north, a busy arterial below, and a residential street to the east. Though the existing residence was demolished, the previous daylight basement level and existing retaining walls established the datum for the new house.

Lounger, sofa, corner combination? FOSSA functions according to the principle of change: Cushion elements find a place in recesses – they are inserted, moved or removed. In doing so, another new piece of furniture is created – for relaxing, reading, listening to music, alone, in a twosome, in a threesome. It’s a good thing if everything is within easy reach and small things can be hidden away quickly. FOSSA is for people who value flexibility and to whom good seating is paramount.

Something about this sofa makes me really like it. It could be the size, since most sofas these days are overstuffed. It could also be the soothing color

This single-family house is located in Ekali, a suburban area of Athens. The property is surrounded by high pine trees that shade the lot, which let to the decision to create a continuous openable glass envelope around the south and east sides of the ground floor. The sliding glass walls allow daylight to enter into the deep plan while defining a large open living area, transparent towards the fenced garden.  The scheme shapes the main open area on the south-east corner of the site, where the pool is placed attached to the building.

Patricia Urquiola has designed a surprising series of seats that transforms the tradition concept of the sofa. She has entitled the product Bend Sofa due to its curvaceous albeit monolithic form. It gives the appearance of being manually moulded from a supple material as if by a sculptor. In practice, it issues from a study of 3-D models and digital research. Bend Sofa effectively conveys the idea of motion by alternating full and empty spaces. Contrasting seams add to the intrinsic design on the surface. The backrest is irregularly shaped, but without compromising comfort. Curved modules – assembled starting with the seats, ottoman and corner elements – form a sofa that breaks out of the usual visual schemes and differentiates from other contemporary pieces on account of its calculated eccentricity.

The DS-1064 is neither sofa nor suite; it is most surely not a row of neatly arranged seating elements. Not in the slightest! It is a living environment that „looked at surrealistically* resembles a little city of seating. Its technology is a stroke of genius that has been elaborated from the DS-164. This means that its backrests can be moved easily to virtually any position desired. Added to this, its expanded modular system of seating elements affords possibilities of constructing a living environment to meet one’s own very individual requirements. This enables owners to create designs that reflect their mood of the moment and to alter them to keep abreast of every change they undergo. This makes for a tiny island of peace and security – not at the end of the world, but at our very feet – so that we can revel in a paradise of seating in our very own living rooms.

2510 sqft single family home located in Seattle’s Phinney Ridge neighborhood. This home was designed for a young family on a small in-fill lot. The lot was very challenging just over 2000 sft with a access easement covering a portion of the southwest corner. This created a situation where the building footprint covered the majority of the yard, so it was essential to capture outdoor space on the structure. This led to the reverse floorplan (living on the third level), allowing the main spaces to easily access outdoor space, light and view. The homeowners created a welcoming contrast by their choices in furniture and wall coverings. To maintain a visual connection to the street we designed the stair to the main living level to be transparent so you can see and feel the activity.  The upper level opens to a West facing deck and exterior stair leading to a view roofdeck which overlooks Ballard and the Puget Sound.
